NZISDC 2018

New Zealand Information Systems Doctoral Consortium 2018

The Ninth New Zealand Information Systems Doctoral Consortium (NZISDC) will be held on Saturday 14 of July 2018 at Auckland University of Technology. This annual event is open to all New Zealand information systems and information science PhD or DBA students (at any stage of their research), their supervisors and information systems academic staff from all New Zealand universities.

The consortium is a full-day event that offers doctoral students the opportunity to present their research projects, receive feedback and exchange ideas in a supportive environment. The consortium is the ideal forum for meeting doctoral students and academics from New Zealand’s eight universities.

The NZISDC event series is an initiative by the Professors and Heads of Information Systems, New Zealand (PHIS-NZ) group.

Keynote address: The why & what of digitization & beyond

Many organizations realize that they need to undergo a digital transformation, but there is an absence of guiding frameworks to help strategic thinkers identify why and what to digitize. This presentation is based on the premise that all organizations are capital conversion systems for creating one or more of the six types of capital (natural, economic, human, organizational, social, and symbolic). Capital is created by sequencing a combination of the five foundational types of systems (engagement, production, framing, record, and inquiry) to transform capital from one form to another or enhance its value. Digital transformation is a means of raising an organization’s capital conversion ratio by redesigning capital creation processes. Examples of the use of the five foundation systems for the digitization of the six major types of capital are presented.
